Topic: Traffic Signal Strategic Plans: From Signal Performance Measures to the 2017 Traffic Signal Benchmarking Report

Speaker: Eddie Curtis, Traffic Management Specialist - FHWA

Description: Transportation strategic planning has emerged prominently in the areas of pavement and bridge preservation, and is frequently used to guide investments for transit, pedestrian and bicycle facilities.  Unfortunately strategic planning has lagged considerably in the area of traffic signal maintenance and operations. This presentation will discuss the implications of strategic planning for traffic signal systems, recent trends, guidance and case studies in this area.  The presentation will also discuss linkages between strategic planning and the pending 2017 Traffic Signal State of the Practice and Benchmarking Report, and available performance measurement technology that will be included in the FHWA Every Day Counts 4 Initiative.
