A Walking Tour of

Hudson County Park

Bayonne

Bayonne VFW Post 226, in partnership with the Hudson County History Advocates, have created a series of walking and bus tours of historic areas and neighborhoods in celebration of the County's 175th Anniversary.

Hudson County Park was dedicated in 1916, four years after opening in 1912. The century-old park was later renamed the Stephen R. Gregg Hudson County Bayonne Park for the World War ll  Congressional Medal of Honor reciepient and Bayonne native.

The Hudson County History Advocates, along with Bayonne VFW Post 226,  invite the public to explore this local landmark by taking a 90-minute “Park by Design” tour on Saturday, October 3rd at 10AM.  The tour guide will be Dr. Carmela A. Karnoutsos, Professor Emeritus, New Jersey City University, who will discuss the park’s history, original design by landscape architect Charles N. Lowrie and architectural features that include the four ponds, lookout pavilions, bandstand, Heroes' Square and tennis courts, among others.  This is the sixth time, Dr. Karnoutsos has led a tour of the park.

Tour group will meet at the Park entrance at 40th Street and Avenue C, across from the Masonic Hall.
