From TV to Touch Screens: Using technology applications to enhance and build engaging programming for persons with dementia

This interactive full-day program will prepare the learner to utilize current technology applications to build and enhance activity programming for persons with dementia.

At the end of this program, the learner will be able to:

  • Discuss uses for technology in activity programming for persons with dementia 
  • Develop strategies for educating residents, staff, and family members about technology use
  • Discuss technology applications to increase quality of your existing activity programs or to create new programs
  • Locate resources for accessing technology on a limited budget
  • Examine how technology applications can help adapt activities for cognitively, vision or hearing impaired

This program is designed for activity professionals, therapeutic recreation professionals, memory care coordinators and directors, and other long-term care and healthcare professionals who work with older adults with dementia.

Presented by Stacey Young, MA, ADC-MC, Director of Recreation and Engagement, Copper Ridge

Stacey Young has worked in the field of activities and dementia care for over 11 years. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1998 and her master’s degree in aging studies in 2000, both from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She has worked in various settings including long term care, assisted living and care for the memory impaired. Stacey has been Activity Director Certified through the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals since 2002. Currently, she is employed as Director of Activities and Volunteer Services at Copper Ridge. Stacey has presented on a variety of topics relating to the provision of activities to the memory impaired including such topics as cross community activity competitions, laughter in dementia care and documentation in activity programming. She has presented to groups including activity professionals, long term care professionals, and caregivers providing direct care for loved ones in their home.
