Older & Medically At-Risk Drivers: Dementia and Medical Fitness to Drive

Maryland MVA, the Copper Ridge Institute, and William Hill Manor invite you to attend an interactive workshop focusing on the recognition of medical and cognitive impairments in older adults that can affect safe driving.

The increasing prevalence of Alzheimer’s and other dementias in our aging population presents a public health concern relative to road safety. This workshop will focus on the impairments produced by dementia and medical conditions common in older adults that can affect a person's ability to drive safely. The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration’s process of referral and evaluation for medical fitness to drive will also be addressed.

Registration and professional development hours are FREE. Seating is limited and clinicians must RSVP by 11/6/14.

Questions? Please contact Nanette Schieke at nschieke@mdot.state.md.us for more information.

Occupational Therapists: This continuing education program has been approved by the Maryland Board of O.T. Practice for 1.75 contact hours.

Allied Health: Nurses and other non-physicians attending the clinical workshop will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
