Spend a morning learning from the experts, and take home a new skill! This free, half-day program will introduce the learner to assessment, documentation, and reporting of findings related to pain and neuropsychiatric symptoms in persons with dementia. Space is limited!

About the Presenters:

Allan A. Anderson, MD, is Vice President of Dementia Care Practice at EMA, and also serves as the Medical Director for the dementia program at The Gardens of William Hill Manor. He also serves as a consultant for the comprehensive area at William Hill Manor Retirement Community. He currently has admitting privileges with Dorchester General Hospital and Consulting Staff to Memorial Hospital in Easton. Dr. Anderson is active in the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP), a national organization representing geriatric psychiatrists and other clinicians, educators, and researchers in the field of geriatric mental health. He served as President-Elect during 2010. Dr. Anderson was elected and served as President of AAGP from 2011-2012. Dr. Anderson has published numerous articles and lectures regularly, locally, and around the country. He received the Distinguished Fellow of the APA in 1997. At the Samuel and Alexia Bratton Memory Clinic at The Gardens of William Hill Manor, Dr. Anderson leads several clinical trials of novel medications for Alzheimer’s disease.

 Mary DiBartolo, PhD, RN, CNE, is 1981 graduate of Towson University with Bachelor’s of Science degree in nursing.  She earned her Masters degree in Business Administration in 1989 from Salisbury University, during which time she worked for several years in various long term care settings across the Eastern Shore in various educational and management positions. She was a licensed nursing home administrator in the state of Maryland from 1990 through 2003, including 3 years as Assistant Administrator at William Hill Manor. She received her doctorate in nursing from the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Nursing in 2001 and is currently a Professor of nursing at Salisbury University where she has taught in the undergraduate nursing program since 1995 specializing in adult health, gerontology and dementia care. She is certified in gerontological nursing by the American Nurses Association and recently earned her NLN certification as a nurse educator.  She is an active member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing.  She also serves as a manuscript reviewer for several nursing journals and is on the editorial board for theJournal of Gerontological Nursing.  She has authored numerous publications focused on dementia caregiving issues, as well as other pertinent issues related to the care of the older adult population.  She also has lectured on a variety of dementia caregiving topics in the local area and continues to serve as an advocate for dementia patients and their caregivers. She is also host of Focus on Health, a series of educational television programs highlighting current health care issues which airs on Salisbury University’s PAC 14, the local cable access station serving Wicomico County and in March of 2011, joined the Copper Ridge Institute as a core faculty member and Requard Nurse Educator where she is responsible for providing dementia education to facilities on the Eastern Shore. 

 Ann Morrison, PhD, RN, is a nationally and internationally recognized expert on dementia and caregiving issues.  Dr. Morrison is a former faculty member of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Neurology.  She was the Director of The Johns Hopkins Alzheimer’s Treatment and Memory Center Caregiver Family Program, the Millicent Radlick Nurse Scholar at The Copper Ridge Institute (Sykesville, Maryland), and the Education Specialist for the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at Johns Hopkins.  In her current role Dr. Morrison is a Faculty member at the Copper Ridge Institute and the Director of Morrison and Associates Consulting. As an Education Specialist, Dr. Morrison has lectured extensively on Biological topics related to Alzheimer’s disease, care and management of individuals with dementia as well as Sociological topics related to Alzheimer’s disease caregivers and families.  Her background in Nursing, Sociology, Research and Education provides a rich basis for her role as Mentor/Master Clinician to Nursing, Social work, Medical and Gerontological students.  Dr. Morrison developed the curriculum, educated and trained the staff of the Johns Hopkins Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Loss Center, The Staff of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Department of Psychiatry and the staff of multiple research projects in the assessment and care of individuals with dementia. The book Dr. Morrison published with Dr. Peter Rabins, a world reknown dementia expert, “Caring for a Loved One with Alzheimer’s Disease: a Comprehensive Guide for the Home Caregiver. Johns Hopkins Press, Digital Landing, Baltimore, Maryland” has sold widely and served as a guide for numerous family caregivers.
