More than Activities: Creating Engaging Programming for Persons with Dementia 

This interactive day-long program will include topics such as engaging the difficult to engage, creating successful small group and one-to-one programs, and techniques for developing effective activity assessments and care plans. Attendees with participate in didactic sessions, small group discussions, as well as hands-on practica.

At the end of this program, the learner will be able to:

  1. Discuss the common causes of dementia
  2. Identify cognitive and functional changes that occur in persons with dementia, and how this affects activity programming
  3. Discuss the domains and types of activities
  4. Describe appropriate modifications to activities for persons with mild, moderate, and severe dementia
  5. Identify resources for engaging persons who may be difficult to engage
  6. Discuss strategies for planning and implementing small group and one-to-one activities
  7. Discuss components of an effective activity assessment
  8. Apply components of an activity assessment to daily planning and implementation of activities
  9. Discuss techniques for effective care planning
