Prayer For Our Country
O Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, at this most critical time, we entrust the United States of America to your loving care. Most Holy Mother, we beg you to reclaim this land for the glory of your Son. Overwhelmed with the burden of the sins of our nation, we cry to you from the depths of our hearts and seek refuge in your motherly protection.
Look down with mercy upon us and touch the hearts of our people. Open our minds to the great worth of human life and to the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Free us from the falsehoods that lead to the evil of abortion and threaten the sanctity of family life. Grant our country the wisdom to proclaim that God's law is the foundation on which this nation was founded, and that He alone is the True Source of our cherished rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. O Merciful Mother, give us the courage to reject the culture of death and the strength to build a new Culture of Life. Amen

The blessings the meal has given me today have renewed my spirit which was at a uncomfortably low. God is Great and so is Magnificat!!
Not enough paper to tell you what it [Magnificat] has meant in my life.
Love seeing all the beautiful ladies from across the diocese!
Filled with faith-full moments
You are wonderful. It is good that Magnificat exists to hold together Catholic women. Do not get discouraged, ever!
The service team is doing an amazing job, keep up the great work!!!! (thanks, we feel the same way about our Advisory team of ladies and volunteers that help us in so many ways. The meals wouldn't be a success without them.)
I love all "you-all" do for Mary and her children.
[She] was a very pleasant and welcoming hostess. I brought my [guests], all from different or no churches, and they all felt welcome.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks ladies! Your comments are a blessing to all of us!

About Our Speaker:
Sister Madeline Contorno, O.S.B
Benedictine Sister Madeline Contorno was born in 1950 into an Italian-American family in Birmingham. She was a teen in the 60's, a chaotic time of civil unrest. She vividly remembers the Sixteenth Street Church bombing in September, 1963, when four little girls her own age were tragically killed. She believes her religious vocation took root at that event as she looked to Jesus for justice and reconciliation. Sister attended St. Paul's Elementary School and John Carroll Catholic High School where the love and dedication of the Sisters laid the seeds of her Benedictine vocation. She obtained two master's degrees, one in theology from the University of Notre Dame and one in social work from the University of Alabama. She presently lives in Birmingham and ministers at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.
Sister Madeline entered Sacred Heart Monastery in Cullman in 1969. Since that time, she has served her religious community in various capacities and ministered as religious educator, hospice social worker, and pastoral associate. She coordinated the diocesan program RENEW 2000 and directed Pentecost 2000, a diocesan-wide ecumenical celebration at the BJCC. She has 25 years of experience in ministry to the dying and grieving. Sister says, "I have witnessed the dying and rising of the Lord in the faith and courage of so many dying people and their families."
Come to Magnificat and hear how Sister Madeline sees God writing the story of his love in the experiences of her life. She feels "consecrated life witnesses to the church and to the world that seeking God alone is enough to fully satisfy and fully engage a person's whole life." She believe's we are all called "to let God love us, let God transform us, and let God take hold of our hearts and never let us go."
