Come help the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program, the Tampa Bay Estuary Program, and Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources Department bag oyster shells to restore estuarine habitats at Robinson Preserve on Saturday, December 12th! We will be making large bags of fossilized shells to place in the estuarine waters of the preserve in early 2016. The bags will provide surfaces for oysters to live on and to carry out their important jobs of filtering water, providing habitat for other organisms, and preventing shoreline erosion.
Please be aware that although we will strive to have activities for people of all abilities, this event will involve moderate to difficult physical effort, including some heavy lifting and a 15-minute walk. Additionally, bathrooms will not be easily accessible. For this reason, we discourage parents and guardians from bringing young children (under age 10).
