Calligraphy: Illuminated Letters with Rose Wathen 

Illuminated Letters have been used in calligraphy since scribes wrote copies of manuscripts 1500 years ago.  The Letters that will be created use both ancient techniques and modern tools.  Students will transfer a pre-drawn letter onto a soft black paper, outline with white paint with metallic ink and fill in with color pencils.  You will have a matted finished piece of art ready to frame that you have created totally on your own!

Class fee is $50 and includes the use of supplies:
•    Watercolor color pencils, metallic color pencils
•    Gel pens
•    Gold, silver and copper gouache with brushes
•    Handouts with samples
•    Black art paper
•    Saral transfer paper

Rose Wathen, owner of RosesPen, is a calligrapher, lettering artist and teacher.  She is past president of the Nashville Calligrapher’s Guild and remains active in this group’s mission to spread knowledge of the art of calligraphy.  She works with brides on wedding calligraphy, is commissioned for personalized art including marriage contracts and love letters, personalizes Christmas ornaments and letters on walls and rocks. Rose has taught art at Holy Rosary Academy for the past four years and has taught calligraphy since 1991.
