Description: This 3-hour introductory workshop will discuss evidence-based practices in group and individual psychotherapy for adolescents and young adults on the autism spectrum and/or who identify as neurodivergent. This workshop will also include strategies for therapeutic engagement as well as therapeutic methods to infuse social skills/pragmatics interventions. This workshop will incorporate active, hands-on activities, a variety of case studies, and will discuss the current state of neurodivergent activism and justice.
Learning Objectives: This workshop is designed to help participants
List psychiatric conditions that commonly co-occur with ASD.
Summarize current evidence-based practices for co-occurring conditions and ASD.
Apply developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions for co-occurring conditions by practicing therapeutic responses in small groups
Define neurodiversity as a movement, a belief, and a paradigm.
Utilize a strengths-based, justice-focused approach to therapy for adolescents and young adults who identify as neurodivergent.
Presenter: Rebecca Girard is a clinical social worker licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the State of New York, specializing in neurodivergent issues, sexual trauma, and international social work. She is a Certified Autism Specialist, a member of the Asperger/Autism Network of New England, a member of the International Federation of Social Workers and the National Association of Social Workers, and has trained extensively in drama-based social skills/pragmatics interventions, trauma-informed care, and sexual assault treatment/prevention. She is currently available for individual and group therapy in Greater Boston, and offering consultation in New York and abroad.

Inclement weather policy: In the event that NHPA has to postpone or reschedule the training conference, a voucher equivalent to the full price amount of what was paid for the conference will be issued. If NHPA has to cancel the event with no postponement or reschedule date, a full refund will be given. Please be sure that NHPA has your up-to-date contact information (email/text/phone). Any weather cancellations or postponements will be made no later than three hours prior to an event.
