Workshop Description:

This interactive workshop will introduce evidence based concepts for treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.  The presentation is geared towards attendees with beginner to intermediate knowledge of treating OCD.  Both common and unusual presentations of OCD will be discussed, along with how to apply Exposure and Ritual Prevention Therapy (EXRP) in treating OCD symptoms.  Different types of exposure used in therapy will be described, and medication guidelines will also be reviewed.  Resources for treatment and community support will be shared.  Several examples of cases and exposures will be given, and attendees will have the opportunity to share cases and ask questions.

This workshop is designed to help participants (beginner and intermediate):

  1. Learn how to diagnose Obsessive Compulsive Disorder by accurately identifying obsessions, compulsive behaviors, and the impact these have on clients.
  2. Understand the variations of obsessions and compulsions and identify four common obsessions and compulsions in OCD.
  3. Learn effective treatments for OCD, including EX/RP and medication, and be able to identify when to refer client.

Presenter:

Elizabeth A. Ellis Ohr, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist. Dr. Ohr specializes in evidence based treatment of anxiety disorders. Evidence based means that the treatments have been tested in multiple research studies and have been shown to be effective for most people.  Her specialty includes Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) for PTSD, Exposure and Response Prevention (EX/RP) for OCD, as well as cognitive-behavioral treatment for social anxiety, panic disorder, specific phobias, and generalized anxiety.  These treatments are usually time limited, meaning many people experience benefits early in treatment and complete treatment in 10-20 sessions. Dr. Ohr’s goal is to make you the expert in your own anxiety and teach you the skills needed to manage your anxiety independent of regular therapy sessions.  She received her Psy.D. in clinical psychology from Immaculata University in 2009. Dr. Ohr completed post doctoral training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Center for Management of ADHD and the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety (CTSA).  She was clinical faculty at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety prior to moving to New Hampshire. Dr. Ohr is the President of the International OCD Foundation New Hampshire Affiliate. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, New Hampshire Psychological Association and the Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.
