The I Am Sayings of Jesus - Sept. 21 - 23, 2015
The "I AM" Sayings of Jesus in John
The Gospel of John is unquestionably different from the synoptic gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Some of the material that is unique to John includes the "I AM" sayings of Jesus, part of the reflection of John's community on who Jesus truly was and is. As we study each of these statements in John's gospel - as we pay closer attention to what Jesus said and did - we will come to understand more clearly what God is like. In the same way that the 'signs' in John point us to the coming of God's kingdom, the "I AM" sayings of Jesus point us to who God is.
Growing Pains in the Early Church - Sept. 23 - 25, 2015
In the book of Acts, we see the explosive growth of the early church, as the apostles acted under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As we know from experience, rapid growth rarely comes without some difficulties and challenges - growing pains. Take a look at several of the challenges or barriers to growth in the early church (surprisingly like many of the barriers that we face today) to learn how the early believers stayed true to the leading of the Spirit in order to carry the Gospel not just to Jerusalem, but to Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
