Individual registration descriptions that comprise the total course
July 17 - Introduction to Deepening the Practices
Yoga is an integration of the physical body and the Spiritual body. In this overview, we will review the immensity of concepts that are integrated into the yoga tradition and sister Vedic sciences. The anatomical body systems will be integrated into the discussion as we establish the premise that the body is the silent communicator of the Spirit.
July 24 - Pranayama: The Gift of Life
We need to learn to breathe before we can do pranayama. How do you breathe? What is the difference between breathing and pranayama? What muscles do you use to breathe? How do you integrate breath into asana? Come and explore!
July 28 - 29 Weekend - Esoteric Anatomy
Rather than learning about the external manifestations of the cakra, we are going to enter the vibrations of the Divine and explore the inside story. Explore the concept of being an expansion of Divine energy, receiving an opportunity to experience itself in form.
July 31 - Foundations of Ayurveda for Yoga Teachers
Ayurveda is a Sister Science of Yoga. It is a guiding science for yoga teachers to support understanding each students health and wellbeing. Defining our health by the balance of the elements we are made of and their balance within. The combination of the elements are defined as vata, the air and space within; pitta, the fire and transformation quality within; and kapha, the grounded flow of our life. Explore ayurveda and yoga and their potential for integration in our practice.
August 7 - Asana Basics and the Expanded Tools of Yoga
Basic principles are inherent in the practice of asana. In this session, we will review the basics from the anatomical to the psycho-spiritual aspect. We will review additional practices including mudra, mantra, drsti, pratipaksha bhavana and explore how they round out the dynamic tool box of the hatha yoga philosophy.
August 14 - Basic Yoga Methodology Tools
Body reading, sequencing, language through the kosha, demonstrating and assisting are some of the methodologies we use in sharing the tools of yoga. The course will focus on body reading to support integrating the other methodologies of yoga.
August 21 - Classical Texts
There are many texts that offer us insights into living yoga both on and off the mat. The survey in the course will be an overview of the themes within the Upanisads, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Bhagavad Gita, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Gheranda Samhita and Yoga Yajnavalkya.
August 28 - Yoga Sutra
The most well known text and guiding light of yoga in America is the Yoga Sutra by Patanjali. The text includes the benefits of the ethical foundations and yoga tools. It outlines the psychology of our Spirit expressing itself in this world. Join me as we explore the principles of the Sutra.
