The Ewam Buddhist Institute begins a 2 year program on the Mahayana section of Jigme Lingpa’s seminal text Treasury of Precious Qualities. This text is a definitive, detailed presentation of the entire Buddhist path. This is a complete and comprehensive program taught by the renowned Namchak Khenpo suitable for both students new to Buddhism and intermediate students.This text was taught by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche at Shechen Monastary every year and considered so valuable that his students wore it on their bodies. Patrul Rinpoche said to hear one word of this text would place one on the path to liberation and to study the whole text would lead to Buddhahood in this life. In 2016 the school completed the Hinayana section of the text to amazing reviews by the students.
New students may join the program in 2017 with some preparation and study of last years teachings. Last year’s recordings will be included for no additional fee for new registrants. For those who are pressed for time to listen to the recordings, what is important is to read the text (approx. 80 pages) thru the Hinayana section in order to have familiarity with the material. Last year was very foundational, this year we really get into the heart of the situation! No need to worry. There will also be a study guide to help students follow the key points, and in the spring, Namchak Khenpo will be available for questions. Having Buddhist refuge vows is also a requirement and for those that don't have them they will be offered at the program on July 1st along with a complete explanation by Namchak Khenpo.
Upon successful completion, graduates will earn a certificate ‘Holder of the Treasury of Qualities of the Two Truths’. In 2017, the program will add more sessions such as debate. Because of this, certificates will only be offered for those attending in person. Online classes will be offered as a non-certificate option, but limited solely to the text portions of the teachings.
Classes will be held 6 days a week Mon-Sat between 8:00am-5:30pm. Tuition for programs includes all teaching sessions, three meals a day and the accommodation that you choose. A non-residential (commuting) option is available which includes all teaching sessions and lunch. This event is limited to 65 people, Institute events do sell out, so please register early. Financial aid is available on request. Students may use a payment program and pay the tuition over an eight month period with $200 down. Students may also pay a $200 deposit to reserve a space at any accomodation level and pay remainder upon arrival.

Accommodations Please let us know as soon as possible whether you will be camping or need a bed. Feel free to call me if you have any questions about accommodations as well. We ask that you use the outdoor portable toilets as much as possible to reduce the stress on the septic system at the sangha house. Camping Bring your own tent and gear and sleep outside which reduces the cost of the retreat. Temperatures during the day range anywhere from 50-80 and in the evenings it can range anywhere from 30-60 degrees. Campers and RV’s are also welcome. Food Ewam serves three healthy, vegetarian meals daily. There will be a cook for lunch and dinner, however you will prepare your own breakfast with food provided. Items for breakfast will be: nut butters, jelly, cereal, granola, milk, yogurt (fat-free, regular), fruit, bread, oatmeal, and eggs. We cannot accommodate all dietary needs and preferences, but invite you to tell us your concerns. We will work with you as best we can! Air and Ground Transportation We are 30 minutes from the Missoula airport. There is a section on the registration form for you to list whether you need a shuttle from the airport and your flight details. Depending on how many people are flying in for this retreat, you may have to wait at the airport for your ride to limit the amount of trips back and forth. If you are driving, here are directions to Ewam and the Garden of One Thousand Buddhas. Payment Karma Yoga Karma Yoga (work service) represents time offered to support the needs of the retreat and is an intrinsic part of spiritual practice. All retreatants are encouraged to participate in approximately one hour of karma yoga daily. We greatly appreciate your willingness to help in this way. You may have the same job every day can trade jobs with people if you prefer on your own. What to Bring
Texts We will be using the Treasury of Precious Qualities. Please purchase and bring it with you to the retreat. We will also use The Cascade of Blessings (Ewam Prayer Book). Gochen Tulku Sang-ngag Rinpoche is the founder and spiritual director of Ewam International Centers. Rinpoche was recognized in early childhood as the reincarnation of the Gochen Tulku. Sang-ngag Rinpoche is an outstanding meditation master and scholar. Rinpoche's vision of a peace garden in a mountainous valley came to him as a small child, eventually leading him to Montana to build the Garden of One Thousand Buddhas. His primary residence is in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he has established a retreat and practice center, Pema Khandro Ling. (Complete Bio)
Namchak Khenpo, the brother and spiritual heir of Tulku Sang-ngag Rinpoche, the founder of The Garden of One Thousand Buddhas, was born in Eastern Tibet in 1965. As a young monk, Khenpo studied all aspects of Buddhism, including ritual arts and chanting. Khenpo traveled to Mysore, India where he had the good fortune to meet His Holiness, Penor Rinpoche and begin studying at His Holiness’s Nyingma College, Namdrol Ling Shedra. He graduated after nine years as a Do-Ngag Rabjampa, Master of Sutra and Tantra, the highest academic degree.
