2014 Homes Tour Docents

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the AIA East Bay Homes Tour as a docent. All docents receive a complimentary, non-transferrable half-day tour ticket, in addition to a complimentary registration to special Architect public event & reception (Meet the Architects) to be held in September.

Please note that docents will be required to stand for long periods of time.

Tickets and house assignments will be distributed at the August docent trainings.

Shifts
Docent shifts are Saturday, August 9th with the morning shift beginning at 9:15am and afternoon ending at 4:45pm. Shifts will be assigned basesd on need--if you absolutely cannot be on a certain shift please contact Sidney Sweeney at 510/464-3600.

Docent Training
Docents are required to attend a training in the week prior to the tour. To accomodate schedules we have provided two different training times. Docents should attend only one training.

In the following registration page we'll ask you to identify if you'll attend the training on Tuesday, August 5th at 6pm, or Wednesday, August 6th at noon. You can always switch which training you'll be attending--this is for food and beverage counts.

1)      Can we pick the house we want to docent?

No, but you can say if you’d like to volunteer or carpool with someone.

2)      Can docents hand out business cards?

No, but you can include your last name on your name badge (some docents will not want last names)

3)      What’s the theme of the tour?

Officially: East Bay Living. The goal of the tour is to engage the public with architecture--which is why it's so important that docents have knowledge of architecture!

4)     I don't have a car.

We encourage you to carpool. If you cannot find someone to carpool with, please contact staff at events@aiaeb.org.
