The 2013 California Building Code & NEW Chapter 11B, an AIA East Bay Monthly Program

Kerwin Lee, AIA, Erick Mikiten, AIA and Steven Winkel, FAIA share a detailed presentation on the 2013 California Building Code and the NEW Chapter 11B , disabled access for public accommodation. The lecture is followed by a traditional Monthly Program Networking Reception.

About the speakers:
Kerwin Lee, AIA, CASp, is a licensed architect and Certified Access Specialist with over 35 years of experience and is accomplished in building and interior architecture. Mr. Lee’s responsibilities include project management, fire and life safety building code consulting and accessibility consulting. Recently Mr. Lee has been involved in the activities of the International Code Conference (ICC) and the writing of the International Building Code (IBC). He is working with the Building Standards Commission of California in writing the next generation of State Codes.

Erick Mikiten, AIA has been president of Mikiten Architecture since 1991 and was a lecturer and instructor at the University of California, Berkeley from 1990 to 1991. He earned a Master of Arts degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. He has deep experience in Universal Design, ADA compliance and sustainable building and is on the California Building Standards Commission.

Steven R Winkel, FAIA, CASp, has over 39 years experience as an architect, engineer, landscape architect and recently became certified as an access specialist in California. Steve is currently serving his third 4-year term as the Architect member of the California Building Standards Commission. He is also on the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Building Sciences and is chair of the FEMA/NIBS Code Resource Support Committee which reviews and comments on building code changes related to seismic safety. He is the author, along with noted illustrator Frank Ching, of the well-received book Building Codes Illustrated for John Wiley & Sons, now in its third edition.
