Roundtable Seminar
A day in the life of a dollar
Every nonprofit deals with income – donations, sponsorships, special event proceeds - so what are the procedures for taking in the revenue? Are they secure? Are they the most cost effective? Are the internal controls in place?
Disbursements – are you protected? Are you utilizing the services offered by banks to mitigate fraud? Do you have segregation of duties within your organization to prevent misappropriation of assets? Are you relying on two signatures on checks as your only safety net?
Teresa McAlpine and Eva Rasmussen both work with many nonprofits in the twin cities area. They will take a look at a day in the life of a dollar, from when it comes in the door to when it goes out, exploring the risks, safeguards and opportunities for each organization to consider.
Table discussions will also be part of this session, with topics including: the shift from paper to electronic donations; policies that are necessary but difficult to enforce; and teachable moments- learning from the horror stories of other organizations.
This seminar is for nonprofit employees as well as those who sit on the boards of nonprofits.
Teresa McAlpine, CPA, is an auditor and senior manager at SDK, and chair of the nonprofit group.
Eva Rasmussen is senior vice president of Strategy & eBanking at Northeast Bank. She works with many nonprofit organizations.
