Trenzadores: Cultura, Lenguage, y Concientización en Práctica Bilingüe (cultural) *Spanish

La cambiante demografía de nuestro estado, y del país en general, exigirá la provisión de servicios especializados que sean cultural y lingüísticamente apropiados. Un área que requiere atención especial es la de servicios de trabajo social bilingües/biculturales. Esta presentación discutirá la necesidad de implementar el marco de Trenzadores, la cual teje críticamente la cultura, el lenguaje, y la concientización en la práctica de trabajo social. Los practicantes obtendrán una mejor comprensión de sí mismos en relación con la conciencia de su identidad lingüística/cultural para permitir que sus clientes se comprendan mejor a sí mismos y a otros como individuos dentro de un contexto cultural. A través de ejercicios/actividades vinculados al marco de Trenzadores y mediante un enfoque intercultural, los Trenzadores desafiarán y producirán un cambio fundamental en la manera que el trabajo social se practicará en el futuro. Eltaller se llevará a cabo en español. 

 

 

 


Presented by:

Brenda Quiñonez, LCSW is an executive board member with El Puente de Encuentros, a non-profit organization committed to generating change in the field of behavioral and mental health by fostering an ethnic and racially diverse representation of professionals in the field. She received Bachelor Degrees in Sociology, Spanish, and Chicano Studies from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. She later graduated with a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California. Brenda’s professional experience in the last 20 years extends to field counseling, medical social work, program management and various realms of non-profit work and clinical mental health settings, independent contract work in school-based therapy and more recently, training and consulting in cultural and linguistic competency and antiracism.

Francisco J. Ronquillo has worked in the public health sector, for more than 20 years and is dedicated to tackling the social determinants of health and the needs of marginalized populations. Currently, his health equity efforts are aimed at building capacity between academic health centers, institutions and communities. As a bilingual educator, he applies popular education approaches in his trainings with Latino, immigrant and border communities on cultural humility, medical terminology, mental health first aid and other community and public health topics. He is an advocate and proponent of identifying the strengths and assets within the community to promote social and systemic change that strives for equity.
Mishelle is a veteran bilingual teacher for New Mexico. A Biliteracy Coach, Mishelle and her colleagues have developed a portfolio process for the Biliteracy Seal offered by Albuquerque Public Schools. She and other community members have created a book of guidance for the State of New Mexico’s Bilingual Seal. Mishelle received a BA in Spanish and Sociology, a MA in Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural studies with an emphasis in Bilingual Education, and is in her fourth year of her doctoral program— all completed at the University of New Mexico. Mishelle has been an active board member for Dual Language Education of New Mexico for the past eight years. Mishelle and her husband have two bilingual children. For the Jurado family bilingualism is celebrated; it is not just something out of a book or a theory paradigm—it is their way of life.
