ON-DEMAND
This is a 2.0 hour session.
Bias is a common concern that must be mitigated in providing culturally competent clinical care. A common type of bias that pathologizes consensually nonmonogamous (CNM) clients is called mononormativity. To help address this bias and empower clinicians to provide culturally competent care to CNM populations, this presentation will review relevant research on CNM populations, discuss some of the unique clinical concerns in the CNM community, and present some tailored intervention for CNM clientele. While this presentation is geared toward clinicians, all social workers may benefit from the increased awareness of the growing CNM population, which is estimated to be as high as 20% of the general United States population. Through thoughtful discussion and presentation, this seminar will seek to help clinicians confront bias and provide quality, culturally competent clinical services to the consensually nonmonogamous community.
