This is a 2.0 hour session.
This presentation will discuss immigrant eligibility and rights to public benefits, including the Trump Administration' s new public charge rule, a racially motivated wealth test that fundamentally changes immigration policy to favor immigrants who are white, wealthy, abled, and educated. For example, immigrants who are poor and deemed likely to receive public benefits like Medicaid and Food Stamps will not be allowed legal entry into the USA. This new rule is having a chilling effect in the immigrant community causing many eligible immigrants to disenroll from life-saving benefit programs out of fear that they will lose their lawful residency or be deported. As many as 26 million people in families with immigrants might be chilled from participating in these programs. Learn how to counsel and work with immigrant clients/patients to fight fear with facts, education, and knowledge and how to document the harm to your patients/clients.
