We work hard and there is always something to do right? This leaves self-care at the bottom of your "if I have time for it" list and often leads to burn out. This retreat will provide an opportunity for you to rest and renew and will include workshops and interactive activities that stimulate your senses, calm your mind, and provide you with time to meet others who share your passion for this work. Together we will learn about aromatherapy, energy medicine, yoga, art therapy, and positive psychology for you AND the clients you serve. Healthy fresh meals will complement the day and provide you with some new tools to elevate your practice.

Session Descriptions:

iRest Meditation
Connect To Your Innate Well-being with iRest® Meditation
In this class, you will explore your innate peace of mind that is always present amidst changing circumstances of life. You will learn one of the eight tools that iRest provides that will help you ground in well-being, in your daily life and in your career. iRest was created by psycho-therapist, Dr. Richard Miller, a fusion of his Western psycho-therapy knowledge and the ancient Eastern practice of yoga nidra meditation.

Positive Psychology
This workshop will address concepts from positive psychology. Regarding the past, participants will learn how reminiscing about positive events in the past help to strengthen feelings of contentment and satisfaction. Forgiveness will also be addressed. According to Martin Seligman, a prominent figure in positive psychology, frequent and intense negative thoughts about the past make serenity and peace impossible. The act of forgiving leaves the memory intact but removes and even transforms the sting. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss gratitude and forgiveness and will be given suggestions of how to be more grateful and forgiving.

Addressing joy in the present, participants will learn the difference between pleasurable events that are fleeting, and joyful events that can have a long-term impact. Participants will gain insight into how to increase joy in their lives. Further, a discussion of joy and flow will show that events that challenge our capabilities and require us to be fully engaged in the process are more likely to yield a feeling of joy.

Finally, this workshop will discuss differences in how optimists and pessimists perceive events, and the impact of these perceptions. Discussion will include suggestions for increasing optimism.

Art Therapy
Participants will engage in two part art task designed to engender gratitude for someone important in their lives and appreciation for their own uniqueness. The tasks are simple and do not require any prior art experience or special skills. All materials will be provided. Participants will have the opportunity to share about the experience.
