05-11-16 Wave Energy Conversion: Challenges and Potential Solutions
Our May Presentation:
Wave Energy Conversion is not a new idea, but widespread R&D and testing has only begun in earnest in the last decade. We'll discuss the challenges that have traditionally faced this source of renewable energy, and how they may be overcome. Finally, we'll cover the work being done at Santa Barbara based Dehlsen Associates, LLC aiming to create a Wave Energy Converter (WEC) called "Centipod" that may break through the barriers and reach viability.
Our Speaker:
Alan McCall, Mechanical Engineer, Dehlsen Associates, LLC - Alan is a Mechanical Engineer at Dehlsen Associates who has been working to develop the Centipod WEC for the last three years. He holds a MSc. in Sustainable Engineering with a focus in Offshore Renewable Energy from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toledo.
