Valarie has been in the human resources field since graduating from Mount Union College (University of Mount Union) in 1993.  She began her professional career in healthcare, returning to that industry for ten years after a brief time in manufacturing.

Currently, Valarie works in the public employment sector for Summit County Children Services as Deputy Director, Human Resources & Support Services.

As the Deputy Director, Valarie is responsible for all aspects of the Human Resources and Support Services (IT, Facilities, Security, and Research & Evaluation).  Valarie is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, Job & Family Services Human Resource Association, Public Children Services Association of Ohio HR Committee, Ohio Public Employers Labor Relations Association, National Public Employers Labor Relations Association and the Stark County Human Resource Association (SCHRA).

Valarie enjoys working in the labor/employee relations arena and is most proud of her involvement in a national pilot program while employed at Akron General Medical Center (AGMC) in 2004.  Valarie was one of the founding members of a groundbreaking program, along with AGMC, the United Steelworks, the Ohio Nurses Association and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services.  The program continues to grow and is focused on assisting employees in the workplace to ensure compatibility and harmony in working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and patients. This collaborative approach is how Valarie plans to approach her current position with SCCS after successfully working with the union in Stark County where she served as the Deputy Director, HR & Support Services for Stark County Job & Family Services.  During her employment at SCJFS, Valarie worked to improve the relationship between management and the union while promoting initiatives to benefit employees and enhance customer service.

Valarie has presented training on a variety of topics to the Stark County HR Association, Job & Family Services HR Association, Ohio Child Support Directors Association Spring Conference, Portage County JFS, Western Reserve SHRM, Medina SHRM, Eastern Stark County Safety Council, the Employment Source (Stark County Workforce Initiative), Stark County JFS, Quest Recovery & Prevention Services, Portage Lakes Career Center, University of Mount Union, Kent State University Stark Campus, and Stark State College.
