The California Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) is pleased to announce a workshop on metrics for tracking climate change and its impacts on California’s water resources, oceans, fish and wildlife, forests, agriculture, and the health and well-being of the state’s residents.  OEHHA will use information from the workshop to help develop the next update of its report, Indicators of Climate Change in California, scheduled for release in 2017.

 

Participants will hear from leading scientists, including contributors to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, National Research Council, and National Climate Assessment reports, about observed trends and conditions relating to climate change.  The workshop will provide a forum for all participants to contribute ideas and information about tracking trends in California and about how CalEPA/OEHHA can update, refine and present its suite of climate change indicators.

 

The workshop goals are to:

  • Stimulate and collect ideas for the best indicators of climate change in California
  • Explore how climate change indicators can be integrated into climate policy and action
  • Discuss emerging evidence of climate change, its drivers and its impacts that are of particular significance to California and warrant further investigation
  • Get feedback on the existing indicators and how to improve them

 

The latest OEHHA report, released in 2013, presents indicators that track trends in the multiple aspects of climate change—from climate change drivers, to changes in climate, and the impacts of such changes on physical and biological systems.


Registration for the workshop is now closed.  However, we are able to handle a limited number of walk-in participants on Day One, and a larger number on Day Two.  Please check in with staff at the workshop registration desk during each morning of  the workshop.
