The WaterSaver newsletter will help you create stunning landscapes that use less water. Every month, local horticulture and irrigation experts will highlight landscape topics ranging from what to plant to when to fertilize to how to encourage native wildlife.

  • Wondering which insects are beneficial to your garden ? Or, why leaves change color in fall? "Ask a Garden Goddess" addresses these and other gardening basics.
  • The "Plant of the Month" focuses on easy-to-grow perennials that will survive our brutal summer heat and alkaline soils.
  • Check out "Water Wise Tips" for sage advice on creating a lush landscape that also saves water.
  • Keep up with free landscaping and irrigation classes and what's happening in the local gardening community with "Upcoming Events."
  • And, of course, we'll continue to deliver monthly watering advice appropriate to our region in the Sonoran Desert.

Eco-Friendly Water Gardens

Whether you're a wildlife watcher, photographer, or just enjoy living in harmony with nature, this workshop is for you.  Paul Holdeman, licensed landscape contractor and owner of The Pond Gnome, will explain how to build and sustain a small organic pond or water feature using native plants and good Xeriscape principles including capturing and recycling stormwater.

A well built and organically kept pond or water garden can be the perfect addition to a natural desert environment. In addition to being cost effective, water efficient, and low maintenance, a pond offers an enjoyable, relaxing, and entertaining alternative to a lawn.
