The WaterSaver newsletter will help you create stunning landscapes that use less water. Every month, local horticulture and irrigation experts will highlight landscape topics ranging from what to plant to when to fertilize to how to encourage native wildlife.

  • Wondering which insects are beneficial to your garden ? Or, why leaves change color in fall? "Ask a Garden Goddess" addresses these and other gardening basics.
  • The "Plant of the Month" focuses on easy-to-grow perennials that will survive our brutal summer heat and alkaline soils.
  • Check out "Water Wise Tips" for sage advice on creating a lush landscape that also saves water.
  • Keep up with free landscaping and irrigation classes and what's happening in the local gardening community with "Upcoming Events."
  • And, of course, we'll continue to deliver monthly watering advice appropriate to our region in the Sonoran Desert.

Create Your Own Oasis

 3/14 and 3/21

This 2-part series of classes covers the basics of designing home landscapes that create attractive, comfortable, functional and sustainable yards appropriate for our location in the Southwest. Basic design processes, how to plan for small spaces, the wide array of desert-adapted plants available, plant selection, and plant combinations and principles and techniques will be covered. The instructor will take participants through the stages of design and assign exercises at each step, from design concept to finished landscape. Class participants are encouraged to bring their own yard layouts for these exercises, whether they are creating a new landscape or renovating an existing one.  Designing in harmony with the Sonoran Desert will be emphasized.

By registering for this class you are also signing up for Create Your Own Oasis Part II scheuled for March 21.
