Join us for the 2015 Technovation Maryland Official Regional Pitch Event.

Technovation Maryland is partnering with Montgomery College to hold this event at their Bioscience Education Center on the Germantown Campus on Saturday, May 2nd from 10:00am - 2:30pm.

This season, Technovation Maryland was selected to be one of eleven regions from around the world to host an Official Regional Pitch Event. This means, the overall first place middle and high school winners from this event will be ranked as Official Technovation Quarter Finalists, moving forward to be considered for invitation to the Technovation World Pitch Event*!

Technovation is a global technology competition for middle and high school aged girls. Technovation's mission is to inspire and educate girls and women to solve real-world problems through technology. Learn more about the competition and their mission by visiting www.technovationchallenge.org

9:30 - 10:00am ~ Teams arrive and sign in

10:00 - 10:10am ~ Welcome to the 2015 Technovation Maryland Regional Pitch Event
~  Margaret Latimer, Montgomery College's Vice President and Provost for the Germantown campus

10:10 - 10:20am ~ Thank you to everyone who supported Technovation Maryland 2015 

10:20 - 10:30am ~ Introduction of the judges, what they do, etc.
~ Explanation of Awards 

10:30 - 11:30am ~ Middle School Pitches and Presentations

11:30 - 12:15pm ~ Lunch (lunch and deliberation for judges about middle school presentations)

12:15 - 1:15pm ~ High School Pitches and Presentations

1:15 - 1:45pm ~ Break: Final judge deliberation

1:45 - 2:15pm ~ Awards Ceremony

2:15 - 2:30 ~ Wrap up of event and praise of the girls with their mentors and coaches

 

Awards to be Given During this Official Regional Pitch Event

- Overall High School and Middle School Winning Teams

                - These two winning teams will move forward as official Technovation Challenge Quarter Finalists. Quarter Finalists from Official Regional Pitch Events across the world are submitted by Regional Ambassadors to Technovation Headquarters. Ten Finalists are chosen from all Quarter Finalists around the world to attend the 2015 World Pitch Event in San Fransico, California to compete for the $10,000 prize.

- Most Socially Innovative App Award

                - “Innovative (definition) – new methods; advanced and original. Introducing new ideas; original and creative in thinking”. In these current times, tech companies are striving for and boasting about being “innovative” organizations. On the path in a tech career, it is imperative for an individual to be innovative and creative if they are to adapt to the always-changing technology needs of our future world.

- Best Technically Executed App Award

                - It is one thing to have a great idea for an App, but it is an entirely separate process to execute and physically create that App. Successful Apps are easy to navigate, move fluidly from screen to screen, and have covered all aspects of the concept idea. The best executed App will be an example of smart and appealing technical design.

- The Pearson Community Award (*SPONSORSHIP PROVIDED BY TY PEARSON*)

                - A huge portion of the Technovation Challenge is to identify a need in your community and have your App address this problem. This award goes to the team who most successfully went out into their community and collected data and evidence to provide proof that their App is indeed needed to help improve the lives of those around them.

The Germantown Campus is located in upper Montgomery County, Maryland, just east of I-270

By Car
Take I-270 to Exit 15 East (Route 118). Continue to the second traffic light at Observation Drive; turn right onto campus.

By Metro
Take Red Line to Shady Grove Station and transfer to Ride-On Route 55 to on-campus stop.

By Bus
The campus is served by Ride-On Bus with connections to Metrorail.

 

*A Technovation team must have submitted officially through the Technovation website in order to move onto the World Pitch Event.
