Redfish "Raft Up" Day Sail

Not your average “Raft Up,” this day sail will include the deploying of an expired life raft! This is an opportunity to see how a life raft deploys and how to get into a life raft (which is harder than it seems). We all hope that we will never need a life raft, but there’s no better opportunity to practice, just in case.

We will sail across Galveston Bay to Redfish Island, a popular anchorage that requires local knowledge for successful navigation and anchoring. After our fleet reaches the island we will anchor, then enjoy swimming, lunch, and deploy the emergency life raft. After a fun-filled afternoon we will return to the Kemah Boardwalk Marina. Sailors will benefit from practicing bareboat techniques such as provisioning, anchoring, and navigation of local waters.

Tentative Schedule: 

10:30 a.m. -  Check in at the South Coast Sailing Adventures; complete skipper and crew briefing

11:00 a.m. -  Depart for Redfish Island. Upon arrival, anchor, enjoy lunch, swim, and deploy life raft. Please bring your own lunch and refreshments. South Coast Sailing Adventures will provide coolers, ice, and grills.

3:00 p.m. - Boats depart for Kemah Boardwalk marina

5:00 p.m. - Upon arrival at the dock, clean and secure the boats; then relax on the porch to ‘wine’ down! BYOB.
