Speakers
Carolyn Camilleri,
VP Special Events and Networking, PWAC Toronto Chapter
Program Chair, Editors Toronto
Carolyn Camilleri has been a freelance editor and writer since 1998. She has written and edited hundreds of consumer, custom, and trade magazines, on topics ranging from golfing, sport fishing, and tourism, to food, business, and clinical counselling. She gets especially excited about launching and rebranding magazines. Since her move from Victoria to Toronto in 2013, she continues to edit three magazines and has rounded out her services to include article writing, website and digital content, and all manner of marketing materials. Carolyn’s experiences with collectives have convinced her that they represent a bright future for freelancers.
Randal Boutilier RGD
Founder & Principal of 12thirteen Design, Toronto
Randal’s firm focuses on effective design solutions for the non-profit and performing arts sectors. Word-of-mouth promotion has grown 12thirteen’s client list from small businesses and independent artists to York University and the Canadian Women’s Foundation. As a board member of the Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD), he has hosted networking events for freelancers and mentorship sessions for students. His latest obsession is network mapping – a growing field that illustrates the various relationships we all navigate in our professional lives.
Greg Ioannou
President, Colborne Communications
Greg started his career as a freelance writer, and joined PWAC in 1978. He quickly decided he was happier on the other side of the desk, and was the first member of the Freelance Editors' Association of Canada (now Editors Canada). He's served four terms as that association's president, and is now an honorary life member. In 1985, he started a writing and editing company, which is now called Colborne Communications. In 1992 he helped found Iguana Books, which first packaged trade books and later became Canada's first hybrid publisher. In 2014 he was part of the team that established Project Working, which helps freelancers collaborate to land large government and corporate contracts. Last year he started work on PubLaunch, a crowdfunding site for writers and editors.
