John Shipman is a nationally recognized thought leader in green building and the practice of green real estate, a pioneer in training and mentoring real estate professionals on green home value, sales, and resource efficient buildings. He has trained more than 5,000 real estate professionals and Contractors in the practice of green real estate and green building fundamentals. In 2014, the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) awarded him with its distinguished national Evergreen Award and named him its NAR Green Instructor of the Year.
For Build It Green, John oversees all business development and education activity as well as Southern California program implementation and outreach activities. He is committed to expanding BIG’s work to support underserved, hard-to-reach and healthier communities in California and nation-wide.
“My passion is helping people live more sustainable, healthier lives and creating opportunities for them to make our world a better place—for today and for future generations,” says Shipman, who has changed many lives through his experience with workforce education and training and residential green building remodeling. He brings an incredible infectious energy and enthusiasm to his work and to Build It Green.
For more than 25 years, Shipman has worked as a green and sustainability consultant and his green experience includes a unique mix of roles: real estate agent, HERS-BPC remodeling general contractor, educator, business consultant, and community outreach leader. Before joining Build It Green, Shipman was managing partner of Energy Efficiency Management, Inc. and Director of Green Operations for Coldwell Banker George Realty.
Shipman is a frequent speaker at national conferences and he has been published and featured in numerous articles and interviews including the Los Angeles Times and REALTOR® Magazine. He holds a BA in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and an MS in Human Behavior and the Environment and Environmental Studies from California State University, Fullerton.

16-99-95. A licensee shall not take a continuing education course for which the licensee has already received a certificate within two consecutive biennia.
Terms of Attendance: Attendance is required. You must be present for the entire course to be eligible for CE credits (excluding registration & break).
Transfer, Cancellation & Refund: The deadline for refunds/course transfers for any enrollee is seven (7) days prior to the scheduled course date. There will be a $10 fee for each class cancellation/transfer. Requests for cancellation/transfer must be submitted in writing to kehau@hawaiiislandrealtors.org.
Returned Check Policy: A $25 service fee will be charged for all returned checks.
COURSE MATERIALS NOTICE: Effective January 1, 2015, all class materials will be sent to you in advance electronically via e-mail. If you would like a printed copy available at the class, please email a request to HIR Staff, not less than 3 business days prior to the scheduled class you will be attending, and it will be available at the registration table. There will be a nominal fee per class for all printed materials.
Reasons for going GREEN:
