and STEM Career Exploration Weekend 

Three great opportunities in one weekend and at one location for high school students who are D/HH and their families.

Students will enjoy fun activities that will help them identify and develop their career interests and think about the future with a college education in mind.

Parents will get financial information as well as access and support service information and tips to help their students begin to think about life after high school.

**All activities are presented in English and American Sign Language.

FSDB Senior Day: 

Activities are facilitated by Jacquelyn Lally, FSDB High School Guidance Counselor. Senior students who are D/HH from mainstream programs are welcome to attend with a parent to learn about College and Transition Readiness. Tentative topics are: Post-Secondary Education Options & the Process, Financial Aid & Scholarships, Resume Tips & Job Interview Preparation, Applying for a Florida State College, Hands On Education, Vocational Rehabilitations, Gallaudet University, and Rochester Institute of Technology/National Technical Institute for the Deaf. *Registration is required.

What is FutureQuest?

FutureQuest is a free workshop offered by the Rochester Institute of Technology to help high school students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their parents plan for the future – whether it be the transition from high school to college or from high school to work. This transition is one of the most important – and challenging – events in the life of high school students.

Students:

Enjoy fun self-awareness activities and learn what you are good at, what you are interested in, and what things you like to do that could become your focus – or your major – in college.

Parents:

Help your student begin to think about life after high school and what choices will help them on the path to a successful life. If your student chooses to continue an education, you’ll get important information about financial aspects of college, and the support and access services that will help your student succeed.

Please Note: 

To be eligible to participate in FutureQuest, students must:

• be deaf or hard-of-hearing
• be entering 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade in September
• bring at least one parent or guardian
• attend the entire workshop/activities on September 23, 2017

DeafTEC STEM Weekend:

Deaf and hard-of-hearing students with interests in science, technology, engineering and math can attend the STEM exploration activities following the FutureQuest presentation Saturday evening(4:30PM-8PM) on September 23, 2017 and Sunday morning(8AM-1PM) on September 24, 2017.The STEM activities are designed to help students learn about and consider jobs and careers in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields. Through hands-on activities, participants will explore robotics, programming, digital design, photography, CAD, and 3D design. They also will meet other students with similar interests and enjoy social activities.

**ALL students must be accompanied by at least one parent or guardian.

For participants traveling MORE than 50 miles one way who need to stay overnight, complimentary hotel accommodations can be provided. You must attend at least 2 days of the workshop to qualify for hotel accommodations.*Note: You can also be reimbursed for mileage if you are traveling MORE than 50 miles round-trip.
