 Interfaith Retreat

Experience the benefits of engaging new perspectives as Rabbi Chai Levy and Rev. Jeremy Levie explore their unique beliefs and shared longings regarding the theme - Returning Home: Settling the Self on the Self.

  • Hear from both teachers about their religious backgrounds and spiritual practices
  • Participate in prolonged periods of silence and meditation
  • Discuss and network with spiritual and civic leaders of Marin
As of September 30th, the online registration is closed, but walk-ins are welcome (we cannot guarantee lunch). We ask walk-ins and people who need to pay, to arrive by 9:45am. The Retreat will start promptly at 10am.
  •  The parking lot is a short walk from the Zendo, where the Retreat will take place. Look for the Marin Interfaith Council signs for parking and directions to the Zendo.
  •  No beverages are allowed in the Zendo (water bottles can be left on the shelves outside). Shoes and hats must be removed before entering the Zendo.
  • Loose fitting comfortable clothes are suggested.
  • A vegetarian lunch is included, and we will offer two options for lunch: silence and talking.
We look forward to seeing you! If you have any questions, please reply to this email or call 415-456-6957.

Chai Rabbi Chai Levy: Rabbi Levy has served as a rabbi of Congregation Kol Shofar in    Tiburon since 2002, teaching, listening, celebrating, singing, dancing, and playing music with adults and children of all ages. She is the leader of the alternative “Musical Meditation” High Holyday services and is spearheading Kol Shofar’s new Community Garden. Chai has served the wider community in various ways, including as a Torah columnist for the J Weekly of Northern California, as rabbi-in-residence at Camp Tawonga, as President of the Board of Rabbis of Northern California, and teaching and speaking around the Bay Area. Her greatest joy is being mom to 2 year old Ezra.

Jeremy Rev. Jeremy Levie: Jeremy Levie serves as Head of Practice, or Tanto, at Green Dragon Temple, Green Gulch Farm Zen Center, where he offers talks, classes, and study groups, and works individually with students.  Prior to being Tanto, he served as Director at Green Gulch.  He was ordained by Eijun Linda Cutts in 2005 and trained as Head Monk, or shuso, in 2009.  He began Zen practice in 1994 and has practiced in residence for the last 18 years at each of San Francisco Zen Center’s three temples, where he also served on the Board. Jeremy has also served on the Board of the Marin Interfaith Council and trained as a teacher of Motion Theater Improvisation.  Jeremy studied philosophy and theater at Yale University and continues to be interested in the intersection of Zen practice with western thought and culture.  He currently lives with his wife, Meg, and daughter, Elizabeth, at Green Gulch Farm Zen Center.
