The Path of Compassionate Action

Path of Compassionate Action

Imagine being able to stay open, grounded, and responsive when you encounter suffering in the world. Though our habitual patterns often prompt us to ignore or try to move away from suffering, there is another option. We can use the challenges of life as opportunities to nourish wisdom and compassion and find true happiness. In Buddhism, one of the most powerful ways to strengthen these qualities is a set of practices known as the six paramitas.

The six paramitas are generosity, ethical conduct, patience, joyful effort, meditation and wisdom. These qualities are the natural expression of the awakened mind. In exploring the paramitas, we will learn how they support us in the here and now and enrich how we live our lives. This journey leads us beyond a limited sense of self to a heart that is open and at ease.

In this weekend retreat, Senior Tergar Instructor Myoshin Kelley will guide us through an exploration of the six paramitas, showing how these qualities of heart and mind can support us on the path of awakening. Our time together will include presentations on the six paramitas by Myoshin, video teachings by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, as well as guided meditations and discussion.

This retreat is open to both beginning and experienced meditators. There are no prerequisites, but if you have not previously attended a meditation retreat, we recommend that you take Tergar’s free online “Introduction to Meditation” course before the retreat.
