03-21-23 City Club Dinner Meeting Featuring Edward Huang, PhD of the California Institute of Environmental Design & Management (CIEDM) 

 

Dr. Edward Huang, principal of the California Institute of Environmental Design & Management (CIEDM), will be the featured speaker at the March 21, 2023 dinner meeting of the San Marino City Club. Dr. Huang will showcase the design, build and management of the Arcadia EcoHome and offer property/facility managers, owners, residents and builders references for earth and eco-friendly features. His talk will discuss site, building and landscape features that help capture carbon, save energy and water, and restore biodiversity. He will also invite City Club members to a walking tour of the EcoHome to celebrate Earth Day 2023! 

Dr. Huang possesses over 40 years of practical & academic experiences in interdisciplinary fields of urban administration and planning, architecture and building science, real estate, environment/energy/water sustainability, and international education. He has worked in a variety of capacities in both public and private sectors, both large and small cities and companies, both in offices and fields, both technical and managerial roles, and both in policy formulation and implementation for urban development & redevelopment projects. He has actively served in many city commissions & committees, and community/grassroots organizations worldwide. As a specialist and a scholar in sustainable and resilient development, Dr. Huang has been invited to teach, lecture, tutor and/or research at 100+ colleges, universities, design & research institutes in the US, China/Taiwan/Hong Kong, and Saudi Arabia, and has been appointed to over 80 honorary posts as a mentor, advisor, expert, adjunct/visiting/guest professor or researcher, and juror by those institutions. He has served as a Senior Advisor to the board of MicroNOC, a California based clean energy tech specialized in design, installation, management and investment of energy storage systems for commercial, industrial, and EV charging projects.  

Huang received his Bachelor of Engineering in Architecture & Urban Design from the Chinese Culture University in Taipei, Taiwan, and received his Ph.D. in Urban Studies and Master of Urban Studies from Portland State University in Oregon. 

The welcome reception will open at 5:45 p.m and the dinner meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. City Club members and guests must register at www.sanmarinocityclub.org. Guests are welcome to attend this dinner meeting for $30.00 per individual to be paid at the door.  The venue will be at San Marino High School (Cafeteria) at 2701 Huntington Drive, San Marino, CA 91108. 

The San Marino City Club is a non-profit civic organization that since 1926 has been dedicated to obtaining for the citizens of the San Marino the best civic, educational and cultural services and facilities possible, and to encouraging and promoting the highest standards of citizenship among its membership. City Club membership is open to residents of the San Marino Unified School District, officials of the School District or the City of San Marino, persons who conduct their business or profession within the School District or persons who have a significant and ongoing relationship with the San Marino Community. 

Membership provides the member with eight meetings that feature timely, important, and informative speakers of both local and national interest and on a wide variety of subjects, and the opportunity to meet many of San Marino’s elected officials, city and school district leaders and its wonderful citizens.
