August 2018 Freedom Coalition

The MAP Freedom Coalition and the JATT Community Partners gather together to unite efforts in order to become more effective in addressing human trafficking in our community, and better equipped to help victims and survivors. The Freedom Coalition plans to meet every other month for the sharing of best practices, case studies. education and training.  We will also invite participants to work on initiatives as they wish.

August 28 Topic:
The Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act (SESTA) and Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA)

Erin McLaughlin will present a simple overview of SESTA and FOSTA which are the U.S. Senate and House bill package that became law on April 11, 2018. These bills clarify the country's sex trafficking law to make it illegal to knowingly assist, facilitate, or support sex trafficking, and amends the Section 230 safe harbors of the Communications Decency Act (which make online services immune from civil liability for the actions of their users) to exclude enforcement of federal or state sex trafficking laws from its immunity. Erin is currently pursuing her master of social work degree, with a specialty in violence against women and children, from the University of Rutgers. Come learn, discuss and explore the impact of these new policies.

Also at this meeting we want to here from you, our community partners, on meeting and coalition guidelines and collaboration goals for 2018 & 2019.

We  encourage serious Freedom Coalition participants and interested professionals to attend this important meeting.

There is NO COST to attend; a light meal of salad (with optional grilled chicken or black beans), fruit, and bread will be provided at 5:30pm.  The meeting will end promptly at 7:30pm.

We do ask attendees to register so we have an accurate food count.
