Poultry 101 Symposium

The poultry industry is a large sector of Maryland’s agriculture. In recent years, there has been much discussion about the growth of poultry, operating practices, and the technologies that are emerging to address poultry litter.

This Symposium will address the basic concepts of the industry including changes over the years, operating procedures, and the structure. A second session will provide insight of the grower’s role. The third session will provide presentations about poultry nutrient generation and updating the data used in the Chesapeake Bay Program Watershed Model, the Mass Balance Assessment, and the Phosphorus Management Tool. The two afternoon segments will provide an opportunity to hear the environmental community’s perspective as well as an understanding for the rules and procedures governing the industry. The day’s final segment will look at the collaborative efforts and new technologies that are emerging to address both current and future needs. The agenda affords significant time for questions and answers among the participants.

The Symposium is sponsored by the Rural Maryland Council, the Harry R. Hughes Center for Agro-Ecology, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and Maryland Grain Producers. Thank you to Rural Maryland Council for providing support for this program.

The cost to attend the event is $15 person and includes continental breakfast and lunch.
