A History and Evolution of Hydraulic Fracturing

Guest Speakers:   Melanie Paterniti, Halliburton

Abstract:

Hydraulic fracturing or “fracking” is a topic that has been the focus of much attention in the last couple of years.  It is, however, a common technology that has been employed by the oil and gas industry for decades to improve the productivity of unconventional oil and gas wells.  This presentation will cover the history of and science behind hydraulic fracturing along with the evolution of the technology and materials used.

About the Speaker:

Melanie Paterniti has worked for Halliburton for 17 years in various capacities related to hydraulic fracturing starting as a field engineer on fracturing sites in Northern Colorado.  Throughout her career she has worked in a technical capacity doing fracturing design and modeling along with field studies in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, North Dakota, Alaska and California.  She is currently based in Bakersfield, CA.  Melanie has a degree in metallurgical engineering from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada.
