Bakersfield Lactation Educator Training 2018 

Join us in 2018, our 6th year of bringing together local individuals who are passionate about improving the quality of breastfeeding support in our community! This 45-hour course is scheduled for one Saturday per month January through May.

Taught by local, experienced IBCLCs, our lactation education program has been built from scratch to cover all areas of the IBLCE Exam Content Outline to ensure that our attendees have a well-rounded and thorough background in human lactation. Join us in 2018, our 6th year of bringing together local individuals who are passionate about improving the quality of breastfeeding support in our community. There are NO prerequisites to take this course and it is appropriate for any individual with a high school diploma or GED-equivalent.

The 45-hour course is ideal for nurses who are currently working in maternal child health areas of the hospital, and this class in particular contains critical information for hospital nurses and staff.

We Offer 2 Lactation Education Options for Your Convenience in 2018

45 Hours - Lactation Education SpecialistTraining - 1/20, 2/17, 3/17, 4/21, 5/19

Covers Basic Breastfeeding Management Techniques such as Positioning, Attachment, Physiology & Hormones of Breastfeeding, Milk Production, Common Breastfeeding Challenges, Counseling Skills, Creating A Prenatal Breastfeeding Class, Adult Learning Techniques, plus more

90 Hours - Comprehensive Lactation Education - Includes Above 45-hour series plus 6/16, 7/14, 8/18, 9/15, 10/20 Builds upon Basic Breastfeeding Management skills and knowledge, exploring all topics in-depth as would be required for an IBCLC® in practice

The 45-hour series is titled Lactation Education Specialist training. Completion of the series includes attendance at all 5 sessions and passing a post-course test, given on the 5th day of training. Upon completion, the participant will receive a certificate of completion of this course in Basic Breastfeeding Management. This class is available as an individual workshop and as part of the 45-hour series. Current IBCLCs and other lactation care providers are invited to attend; CERPs have been applied for through IBLCE for re-certifying IBCLCs.

Continuing Education Units 

Nurses:  BreastfeedLA is an approved provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing.  This course offers 45 contact hours of continuing education.
BreastfeedLA’sprovider number is CEP 16435. Licensee must maintain certificate
for a period of four years.
Lactation Consultants:
BreastfeedLA is an approved Long-Term Provider by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners #CLT113-36. CERPs will be awarded to re-certifying IBCLCs.
Registered Dietitians: Maintain a copy of the agenda and certificate of attendance for CPEs for your Professional Development Portfolio.

Application has been made to LEARRC for accreditation of this 45-hour course.

Refunds will be granted, less a $50 administrative fee, only if written notice of cancellation/request for refund is received 30 days prior to the class (on or before midnight of December 20, 2017.)
