Advanced Concussion Training

A free education event for Marin County and neighboring communities

Event Co-Hosts:

Please join the Sports Legacy Institute's California Concussion Coalition, the Brain Injury Network of the Bay Area, and the Corte Madera Lions Club for an Advanced Concussion Training (ACT) for Marin County and neighboring communities, hosted by Eric Freitag, Psy.D., Coalition Co-Chair and Executive Director of the Mt. Diablo Memory Center Sport Concussion Program, Cindy J. Chang, M.D., Coalition Co-Chair and Chief Medical Officer of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team, and Alison Tetrick, professional cyclist and 2016 Olympic hopeful.

The ACT will provide the information and inspiration for parents, coaches, administrators, teachers, and concerned community members to keep athletes safe. This training exceeds state law requirements that mandate that high school coaches obtain education on the signs, symptoms, and appropriate response to concussion injuries. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance if needed for their school.

The 90-minute multimedia presentation will focus on:

  • Concussion basics and concussion recognition
  • Concussion reporting & athlete psychology
  • Appropriate concussion response & evaluation
  • Return-to-play following concussion
  • Coordination of concussion care with school & family
  • Potential academic consequences of concussions
  • Concussion prevention strategies for coaches & athletes
  • Long-term effects of concussions & brain trauma – Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE)
  • CTE prevention strategies
  • Review of the latest technologies in the fight against concussions
  • Strategies to create a safer sports environment

*ATCs may receive 1 (one) CME credit for attending.
