Economics in Action

A Pre-ACSS Conference Workshop

This workshop is based on the publication Economics in Action: 14 Greatest Hits for Teaching High School Economics,  available Virtual Economics. Author Jane Lopus, along with John Morton and Debbie Henney will be the workshop facilitators.

The philosophy behind the methodology is stated in the following proverb:  “I hear and I forget; I see and I remember; I do and I understand.”  When students approach the study of economics by doing something that challenges them to use economic reasoning to examine economic behavior, they are more likely to understand the concepts being taught.

In this workshop, six simulations such as “Why people trade”, “Productivity”, “The Invention Convention”, “The Circular Flow of Economic Activity”, “Property rights” and “Money and inflation” will be demonstrated.  These lessons are effective with high school and middle school students, and they work for students of all ability levels.

RECEIVE 7 HOURS OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

$20 registration fee includes breakfast, lunch, Virtual Economics 4.0 thumb drive and workshop materials

Payment after October 21, will be charged an additional $5 to cover late processing expenses.
