The Arizona Council on Economic Education and  Arizona Historical Society Presents:

Dinner and a Movie

The Wizard of Oz

Friday, April 20th, 5:00 - 9:00 PM

What is Dinner and a Movie?

Dinner and a Movie is part of a series of workshops designed to help teachers meet Arizona's Academic Standards by integrating feature films in your classroom while providing meaningful, content rich experiences for your students.

At this workshop we will watch selections of the Warner Bros. 1939 production of The Wizard of Oz, based on L. Frank Baum's classic novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", an allegory for the political, economic and social events of America in the 1890's.  Participants will be treated to dinner, take part in activity-based lessons, and hear from William Boyes, Professor Emeritus, Arizona State University, on "Monetary Policy Then & Now."

Workshop Highlights:

  • Interactive, cross-curricular lessons for Middle and High School classrooms
  • Dinner
  • Admission to the Arizona Historical Society Museum
  • Certificate for 4.0 hours of Professional Development

Registration Fee:  $10

Teachers, spouses, guests and members of the public welcome!  Please register each attendee separately.
