Disasters can impact people, systems, and infrastructure spread over an entire region. Gaining and maintaining situational awareness can be difficult. The FirstToSee system is an invaluable tool for gathering a complete assessment of what the public is experiencing after a disaster.
The system includes two parts: an incident reporting app allows the general public to assist agencies by feeding them valuable reports and pictures, while a tool in the back end allows for the aggregation of social media feeds, through which Emergency Managers can get a better sense of what is happening, and be alerted when trends appear. The FirstToSee system allows users to adjust how they search social media and prioritize the mass of information coming in. Agencies are not dependent on the public using the FirstToSee app.
Receive hands-on training in how to navigate the FirstToSee system, including identifying social media streams; keywords; setting up the "watcher" feature (alerts you to changes in tracked keywords); prioritizing and sending information to others; and all the other ins and outs of using the FirstToSee network.
Please bring your laptops and charger to the training!
Who should attend: Public information officers, emergency management personnel, business continuity professionals, and all others that have a role in managing situational awareness, rumor control, and information collection during a disaster.
