Conference Cancellation and Refund Policy

  • Payment due in full 7 days prior to the event.
  • If registration is still open after Friday, 9/7/18, only credit card payments will be accepted.
  • Cancellations should be made in writing.  A full refund will be made for cancellations postmarked or sent via email 7 days before the event. No refunds will be given for requests received after that date or for "no shows."
  • We DO accept substitutions at our conference.  Advanced notification is appreciated.  Please email or call in your substitution at least 24 hours prior to the event.
  • All registrations, whether received by mail or by email, are subject to this Cancellation/Refund Policy.  Cost of registration fee is still liable whether payment is paid or unpaid, unless NHIDA receives notice of cancellation at least 7 days prior to the event.

Morphology for the Primary Grades

This is a hands-on workshop: Yoshimoto will demonstrate, and participants will do.  The goal of this full day workshop will be to expand the participants' expertise.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will gain an understanding of the third level for decoding/spelling - that of morphemes
  • Participants will understand the importance of knowing the structure of English as it relates to the layers of English
  • Participants will develop knowledge of the importance of morphology - vocabulary, decoding, spelling, and the integration of this level with science, social studies, math, grammar, etc.
  • Participants will learn the scope and sequence for teaching morphology at the primary grades
  • Participants will learn the procedures for introducing morphemes and for review via card drill.
  • Participants will gain knowledge in hands-on activities as it relates to morphology.

About Ronald Yoshimoto, M.Ed., M.S.W., Fellow/AOGPE

Ron Yoshimoto, a Fellow of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham, has been in the field of education for 35 years, with a focus on dyslexia.  He has been a general and special education teacher, social worker, counselor and educational diagnostician, as well as principal of a private school for dyslexic and gifted students. Through his Singapore and Denver-based organization, Orton-Gillingham International, Ron has trained teachers in literacy, O-G Math, O-G preschool and O-G ELL in the U.S., Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. His trainings are accredited by the International Dyslexia Association.  He has been president of IDA: Hawaii Branch as well as vice president of the Academy. Ron’s mission, passion and career choices stem from the experiences of his dyslexic brother. 

During the last twelve years, Ron has focused on bringing Orton-Gillingham into public schools for small group and whole classroom instruction for primary grades. His belief is that O-G is good for dyslexics, ELL, special education and general education learners. 

An internationally recognized speaker, Ron is known for his extraordinary enthusiasm, energy, and breadth of knowledge. His presentations are interactive and highly engaging.
