South Edmonton Martin Motor Sports Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 (AST1): $440 per person.

This is a two part course with mandatory classroom sessions in Edmonton, followers by a field day in Valemount BC.

PART 1: Classroom Sessions

Join us for two evenings at our South Edmonton Martin Motor Sports location to cover class material and theory for this course. Course topics include: 

• Understanding avalanche formation and release
• Identifying avalanche terrain
• Travel techniques and terrain management
• Companion Rescue
• ATES Terrain Ratings, Avalanche Bulletins and Danger Rating
• Available Resources
• Understanding your limits and where you fit as a decision maker
• Human factors and how they relate to decision making

PART 2: Mandatory Field Day in Valemount, BC

Field days have a 12 person limit and are being held on December 29 & 30 and January 20, 21, 26 & 27. These dates are non-negotiable due to instructor availability. Dates are first come, first served and must be booked through the link below.

This course includes:

• 7-8 hrs of class time
• Study materials and avalanche assessment tools
• One full field day

This course does not include:

• Snowmobile rentals, gear, or transportation to trailheads
• Avalanche safety equipment (rentals available)
• Trail fees
