Glenda Woods Girls University is a full-day summer day camp for girls ages 6-12. Each week brings new adventures as girls learn about different college majors, take part in unique experiences, meet community leaders, explore the outdoors, and grow their passion for reading, science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Each week includes activities in art, science, reading, and sports.

Ages of University Students: Girls must be at least 6 years old and have completed kindergarten to participate.

Program Schedule: Early drop-off begins at 7:30am; breakfast is served starting at 8:30am. Daily program activities run from 9:00am through 5:00pm. Families have until 6:00pm to pick up their child. Girls must be signed in and out each day. Please note, a $15 late fee per child will be charged for students picked up after 6:10pm.

GWGU will be at the Former KIPP Aspire campus at 735 Fredricksburg Rd. and will run from June 5th through August 11th.

Camp Tuition = $150/week per girl

A $10 application fee will be charged at the time of registration.

Special Discounts:

  • Multi-week: Register for 5 weeks and receive a $50 off of your final total
  • Family: 1st girl fee of $150/week; second child and each child after fee of $100/week (additional family members must be dependents residing in the same household)
  • KIPP: $40/week for registered KIPP students

Financial Aid: 

With fee assistance, weekly fees range from $40- $120 per week. Please submit all required documents at the time of registration; incomplete paperwork cannot be processed. Financial aid is available for those who qualify; subject to availability.

 

Discounts cannot be combined with themselves or with financial aid. Deadline to apply for discounts and financial aid is Friday, May 26, 2017.

Week 1 (June 5-9): Psyched To Meet You!

Let’s start our summer by helping YOU learn about yourself from the inside, out! Enjoy activities aimed to help build self-esteem, positive body image, and manage stress. Skills will be built to help maintain healthy lives both physically and emotionally! Majors: Psychology, Anatomy, Nutrition

Week 2 (June 12-16): Planet Protectors!

We only have one Earth and it’s a pretty amazing planet! Explore all it has to offer! Discover the impact that people have on our planet and how YOU can be a planet protector. Learn about recycling, up-cycling, and growing your own garden! Majors: Environmental Science, Geology, Botany, Ecology

Week 3 (June 19-23): Art Week – Art throughout History

Wonder what it was like to create art in ancient times? Awaken your inner artist and journey back in time! Paint self-portraits and sculpt beauty out of clay as we explore art throughout history. Reconstruct some of the best known architectural wonders on Earth out of everyday items. Majors: Art, Art History

Week 4 (June 26-30): SHEroes: Beyond Heroes!

She had an idea. She persisted. She’s a SHEro! SHEroes are women who do the extraordinary to make a difference. Celebrate women in history and pioneers in San Antonio who have made a positive impact on the community. Discover your super power and change the world! Majors: Gender Studies and Women’s History.

Week 5 (July 5-7): Be a Bold Builder!

Can she fix it? Yes, she can! Come learn about basic household tools and try your hand at building. Create structures using materials from toothpicks to wood and learn different methods of measurement as we design our own community. Majors: Architecture, Engineering, Mathematics

Week 6 (July 10-14): Into the Wild!

So, you like animals. Actually, you LOVE animals! From the depths of the ocean to remote jungles, come explore the fascinating fauna of our planet. Learn about veterinarians and zoologists, what they do, and what it takes to become one. Majors: Zoology, Veterinary Medicine, Field Biology

Week 7 (July 17-21): Friends, Fashion & Food!

Calling all Strong, Smart and Bold girls to come have fun with food and fashion! Do you want to help create yummy recipes with friends by your side? Join us and discover your inner fashionista, chef, and business woman. Majors: Culinary Arts, Fashion Design, Marketing

Week 8 (July 24-28): Build, Create & Innovate!

Curious about what goes into powering our city? Explore different areas of engineering and have fun doing it! We’ll look at the technology behind computer engineering, physics in mechanical engineering, and design in civil engineering. Majors: Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering

Week 9 (July 31 – August 4):  Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!

Want to be part of a team? Join us as we dive into the world of sports and use teamwork to reach our goals! Learn about empowering female athletes and explore different ways to stay active and healthy. Majors: Kinesiology, Sports Science, Health Science

Week 10 (August 7-11): Now that’s a Wrap!

Step into the spotlight! Welcome to Girls Inc. Theater, where every girl is a star! Experience the art of music and theater as we write plays, create song, and explore important roles behind the scenes. Majors: Theatre Arts, Creative Writing, Music
