Girls University Camp Program Aides (CPAs) are partnered with staff over the summer to implement exciting activities offered each week during GWGU. The leadership experience teaches girls 13-18 responsibility, team work, and public speaking skills as they facilitate programs to younger girls and coordinate service projects with a sisterhood of strong, smart, and bold girls!

All selected CPAs are required to attend one orientation and one summer camp training session. Orientation dates are on Thursday, May 18th at 6:00 pm OR Saturday, May 20th at 10:00 am. Summer camp training will be on Thursday, May 25th.

Program Schedule: Early drop-off begins at 7:30am; breakfast is served starting at 8:30am. Daily program activities run from 9:00am through 5:00pm. Families have until 6:00pm to pick up their child. Girls must be signed in and out each day. Please note, a $15 late fee per child will be charged for students picked up after 6:10pm.

GWGU will be at the Former KIPP Aspire campus at 735 Fredricksburg Rd. and will run from June 5th through August 11th.

Camp Tuition = $20/week per girl

$10 application fee is due at the time of registration.

Weekly Camp Sessions

Week 1 (June 5-9) - Project BOLD - Self-Defense* ALL SPOTS FILLED

Project BOLD teaches girls ways to lead safer lives in their homes, their relationships, and online. We will focus on teaching girls to detect dangerous situations and how to seek out and talk to caring adults about personal violence. Along with learning basic self-defense techniques, this session will empower young women to feel confident and strong.

Week 2 (June 12-16): Girl Garage - Automotive Maintenance ALL SPOTS FILLED

Who says girls don’t know about cars? Girls will learn how to maintain and service an automobile. From changing a flat tire to jumping a dead battery, the girls will build the confidence they need before they get behind the wheel.

Week 3 (June 19-23): Economic Literacy - Protect Your Credit ALL SPOTS FILLED

Understanding credit and how to value money is part of being a strong, smart, and bold Girls Inc. girl. This session will focus on how to manage credit and help girls develop a smart and savvy approach to earning and saving money.

Week 4 (June 26-30): Living the Independent Life - Cooking & Home Maintenance Skills ALL SPOTS FILLED

We can’t live off of sandwiches and spaghetti, can we? Cooking is an important part of eating well and caring for our bodies. Girls will learn basics of savvy grocery shopping and how to prepare a well-balanced meal for themselves.

Week 5 (July 5-7): Project BOLD - Healthy Relationships ALL SPOTS FILLED

Girls will learn what characteristics are present in healthy relationships and how they can maintain these relationships in their lives. Through understanding how they feel and acknowledging their power in relationships, girls will build confidence in their ability to be a good daughter and friend.

Week 6 (July 10-14): College and Career Preparedness ALL SPOTS FILLED

What do you want to be when you grow up? It’s a question all girls have heard since kindergarten. For this session girls will focus on how to find the right college and how to apply; the importance of applying for financial aid; and participate in a skills assessment.

Week 7 (July 17-21): Life Balance - Work, School, Relationships* ALL SPOTS FILLED

Being a teenager can be frustrating at times, and life balance is something even adults have to work towards. This session will focus on helping girls manage and understand the stress and pressure they feel in their daily lives.

Week 8 (July 24-28): Media Literacy - How the Media Makes Me Feel ALL SPOTS FILLED

Girls will analyze messages and consider the biases of what appears in the media, magazines, and on the internet. The girls will participate in activities that will help them change the message.

Week 9 (Jul. 31- Aug 4): Leadership and Community Action ALL SPOTS FILLED

Girls will learn about the importance of community involvement and how to become an active volunteer and leader in their community.

Week 10 (Aug 7-11): Graduation Week!**

Girls will celebrate their accomplishments for their summer as a CPA.

*CPAs will participate in a summer-long service project that will culminate on Thursday, July 20th when Girls Inc. hosts a “Back to School Conference” for middle-school aged girls.

**CPAs who attend all 10 weeks of GWGU will have an opportunity to earn a Presidential Volunteer Service Award. To earn the award Teens (11-15) must donate a minimum of 50 hours and Young Adults (16-25) must donate a minimum of 100 hours to earn the award. Certificates will be presented the last week of camp.
