What is the House of the Year?

For over two decades The Builders Association of Eastern Connecticut (BAEC) has been renovating or constructing new homes under their House of the Year program in an effort to educate homebuyers, building professionals and students on the latest in home products and construction technologies, as well as the quality workmanship that should be expected from members of the building industry.

Also known as our "Home Show in a Home," the House of the Year is opened to the public upon completion so that visitors can experience, firsthand, applied designs, products, and technologies.

Proceeds from the project are used to further the educational and charitable goals of the association, which serves the home building industry and the public in New London and Windham Counties. Because BAEC is a 501c(6) nonprofit professional trades organization, all donations of products and services can be deducted as business marketing expenses for income tax purposes.

This year's project is a 1598 square foot 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom split level home on 1.4 acres of land in Griswold CT that is sustainable and affordable at a list price of $219,900.  Our goal is to meet the Builders Challenge by achieving Energy Star.

Andy Gil of Mystic River Building Co., Inc., our committee chair, Chad Whitcomb of The Greensulators Inc., Paul Stone of Lombardi Inside/Out, Nort Wheeler of Mystic River Building Company, and Tim Applegate of New London County Landscaping, worked together to develop plans and specifications for the project.

Be part of our team and showcase your company's products and services in this BAEC Home Show in a Home!  Participants receive exposure in the association's newsletter, weekely updates, Connecticut Builder Magazine, local newspapers and in the public open house.
