The training route is a combination of asphalt and crushed limestone surface.   It incorporates much of the Fox Valley Marathon races course and also simulates conditions you will encounter during the Chicago Marathon.

Pace Groups

A variety of pace groups ranging from 8:00 to 12:00 minutes per mile will be available, monitored by a Pace Group Leader.  These Pace Group Leaders are experienced marathoners and several are certified RRCA coaches. They will be there to coach you along the run, provide support, and answer questions you have to the best of their ability. Don't know what pace to run?  Don't worry, the coaches will guide you into the correct group.

What previous participants have said about FRTR Marathon/ Half Training  . . .

I still can't believe I ran in a Marathon this year and I could have never have accomplished it without the encouragement, coaching and good will of the trainers, pacers and the 10:30 pace group.

K.F. – Geneva, IL

I never thought I could ever run a marathon. But after all the training runs, the great tips and advise from the runners, and all the encouragement from everyone, I am now a marathoner. Thanks to everyone & I hope that we all meet back next year!

A.H. -  Elgin, IL

As someone who did not contribute anything (expect for showing up)
I’d like to say thanks to everyone for the entire summer.

Thanks to all the pacers,
Thanks to the people that put out all the Gatorade,
Thanks to all the people that organized both parties,
Thanks to all the other runners for all the good cheer,
And most of all . . . thanks to the Tom and the folks at the top who organized the whole deal.

T.C. – Geneva, IL

Thank you, Gracias, Merci, Mahalo, Shukriya, Danke, Arigato, Takk!!!

Thank you so much for your encouragement, patience, and coaching throughout the training season. Last year I trained alone and was jealous of those lucky runners on the trail that had water. I joined FRTR Marathon Training for the water stops, but what I found was a group of great friends. No I take that back, I found an extended family on the trail. Thanks to the pace leaders that ran with us and for the care you showed when you circled back after a long run to encourage slow runners like me at the end. Thanks to all my friends for caring and encouraging me.

JB – St. Charles

Thank so much to everyone for the outstanding training program, the words of encouragement, the weekly emails, the great conversation on the trail, the friendships developed, the folks who put out the water and Gatorade every week, the pacers and the overall fantastic experience! I trained by myself last year and didn't meet anyone on my long runs - this year, I met some outstanding individuals and it was a pleasure running with you!

BB – Elgin
