ASHRAE April Meeting: How ASHRAE's bEQ Label Drives High Performance and Energy Savings

All other factors being equal, if two similar existing buildings are for sale or lease, studies show that the more energy efficient building will likely be the winner. Today’s savvy buyers and prospective tenants realize that the energy bills in that building will be lower. ASHRAE’s bEQ, a report card of energy use and IAQ in an existing building or prospective energy use for a building being designed, uses a grading scale that helps consumers (buyers and tenants) understand a building’s measured - or potential - energy efficiency.

This presentation highlights the similarities and differences between bEQ, Energy Star, LEEDŽ, or other building certifications. Understanding them can help engineers and contractors better communicate with building owners and facility managers the value of EUI (Energy Utilization Index) standards that may soon be applied to their buildings, as is now mandated by a number of municipalities, counties and states in the U.S. (including Washington and Oregon). Companies that fully incorporate ASHRAE bEQ labeling can create a new profit center.

This presentation is designed to help engineers (and contractors) educate building owners and facility managers on the bEQ labeling program and its value in the design of new buildings or major retrofits, especially when seeking other certifications.
