Presenter Bios
Day 1 - Steam Turbine, Gas Turbine & Compressor Basics
Rich Kamphaus is the marketing manager for Woodward’s steam turbine and safety solutions developed by Woodward’s Industrial Turbomachinery Systems business. He started with Woodward in 1986 after graduating from Southeast Community College of Lincoln, Nebraska with a degree in Electronics Technology Engineering. He spent the majority of his time at Woodward involved with servicing, commissioning and designing gas and steam turbine controls, safety systems and associated actuators and valves.
Day 2 - Introduction to Power Generation, Control, and Power Management
David Cutro has been an Application Engineer in Woodward’s Electrical Power Systems group since 2009. He has degrees in both Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. His experience in the power industry includes six years with the Navy Civil Engineer Corps’ public works and construction battalions, ten years in design and construction of marine and industrial generator control switchgear, and two years as a merchant marine electrician. His expertise are in the control of generator paralleling systems including synchronizing, real and reactive load control, system configuration, tuning and optimization, and protection.
Day 3 - Introduction to Gas Engine Control
Timothy Farrow is a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer with the Woodward Engine Systems Group located in Loveland, Colorado. Mr. Farrow has been employed with Woodward for 16 years and has 20 years of experience in development and validation of IC engine components and applications.
Mr. Farrow's primary focus has been the design and application of fuel, air and speed control components for gaseous-fueled (CNG, LNG, biomass, landfill, etc.) and diesel-fueled engines ranging in output from 100 kW to 75 MW. He has designed, tested and applied throttles, mixers, fuel metering valves, by-pass valves, wastegate valves, fuel injectors, regulators, actuators and governors. Applications for these components include internal combustion engine control for power generation, processing, on and off highway vehicular, and marine propulsion applications to achieve engine improvements in the areas of performance, efficiency, emissions, reliability and cost.
Mr. Farrow has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, MO and is a Six Sigma Blackbelt.
